Established in March 2019, SYEDO operates with the goal of transforming communities into resilient, self-reliant, and sustainable entities.

To improve the lives of vulnerable communities by providing timely humanitarian assistance through sustainable and community-driven solutions, we aim to build resilience and foster long-term development in crisis-affected and under-served regions.

SYEDO Objectives.

  • Provide humanitarian aid and sustainable development support to communities affected by natural or man-made disasters.
  • Train and equip returnee refugees and internally displaced persons with skills to anticipate and respond to disaster situations.
  • Strengthen indigenous capabilities in early warning detection, disaster preparedness, prevention, relief management, and recovery.
  • Formulate policy alternatives and provide relevant information to policymakers to help contain and resolve conflicts.
  • Promote trust-building and peaceful co-existence among Somali communities through job creation, intermingling, and integration.
  • Support the demobilization and reintegration of ex-militias and war victims into society.
  • Establish health posts and Maternal & Child Health (MCH) centers to improve access to healthcare.
  • Promote income-generating small-scale enterprises to enhance community health and nutrition.
  • Encourage applied education in healthcare for sustainable community well-being.
  • Improve health strategies by reducing infectious and communicable diseases through primary healthcare services.
  • Strengthen local health service capacity, improve clinical services, and rehabilitate health infrastructure.
  • Improve both formal and informal education to enhance literacy and skills development.
  • Encourage Somali intellectuals and professionals in the diaspora to return by providing real-time information, creating a suitable environment, and offering job opportunities.
  • Provide clean drinking water for human and animal consumption and irrigation of cash crops.
  • Control vector-borne diseases and improve environmental hygiene in rural communities.
  • Maintain rural roads to facilitate the marketing of agricultural and pastoral products.
  • Establish water reservoirs to support communities facing water scarcity.
  • Prevent soil erosion and environmental degradation through community participation by:
    • Tree planting initiatives
    • Soil conservation techniques
    • Energy-saving methods to reduce tree-cutting for firewood and charcoal.
  • Increase public awareness of sanitation and environmental hygiene through media campaigns, seminars, and urban self-help initiatives.
